At KS3 the Drama department provides a safe, supportive and positive learning environment in which every student has the opportunity to grow and develop their creative skills, which will in turn develop self-confidence and a life-long appreciation of the arts.
Students develop their performance skills using many drama forms. They explore scripted performance, theatre in education, physical theatre, improvisation and employment in the Performing Arts. Students in Year 10 currently work towards the QCF Level 1 Performance Skills(CCEA).
We currently offer 2pathways at KS4 which include:
GCSE Drama (CCEA)
OCN Creative Arts & Digital Technologies (OCN)
At Post 16 there is 1 pathway offered by the Drama department:
A Level Performing Arts (CCEA)
Students at Key Stage 3 have the opportunity to participate in the Drama club after school on Wednesdays. We always encourage our students to avail of extra-curricular opportunities such as Cinemagic and Bruiser Theatre’s Summer Academy. We offer students the opportunity to experience West- End theatre, and experience back-stage antics on our bi-annual London Theatre trip.
GCSE & A-Level students visit the theatre regularly as part of their on-going appreciation of all things theatrical. We have worked with local theatre company Replay on developing their school touring projects as well as Bruiser Theatre Company and the Lyric Theatre, Belfast Outreach projects. Students look forward to our Whole School Musical which happens every other year. To date we have produced “Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” and “Sister Act”.
